I remember the first time I saw a Tesla gliding past me abroad, sleek, futuristic and almost too quiet to believe. And now that same feeling has arrived right here in Mumbai.
Today, July 15, 2025, Tesla officially made its debut in India by opening its first showroom at Maker Maxity Mall in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai. Stepping inside the Tesla Experience Centre felt like entering a new era — bright lights, immersive displays, and the Model Y SUV gleaming at the center.
For us who have been waiting for “Tesla India” for years, this is more than just a car launch, it’s a cultural moment. The Model Y imported from Tesla’s Gigafactory in Shanghai is available in two rear-wheel drive variants. Prices start at ₹59.89 lakh for the standard RWD and go up to ₹67.89 lakh for the Long Range. Yes, those numbers may seem steep, but that’s because of the import duties India still imposes on foreign EVs.
But bookings are open. I spoke to a few early visitors today and the excitement was electric, pun intended. A small ₹22,000 token booking gets you started and then ₹3 lakh to seal the deal.

Behind the scenes Tesla has also set up a service and warehousing hub in Sakinaka and even brought in Supercharger gear to prep for charging stations in Mumbai. They aren’t building cars here yet but they’re definitely here to play the long game.
So yes, “Tesla car price in India” starts at ₹60 lakh but this is more than just a new car on Indian roads. It’s a shift. A nudge towards cleaner mobility. And honestly it just feels good to say: Tesla is finally here.
