Get ready for the much awaited Mahindra Thar 3-door facelift. Expected to hit the Indian market in late 2025 or early 2026, this updated off-roader will combine sharper design elements and modern features with the off-road DNA that defines its heritage.
This comes after the success of the larger 5-door Thar Roxx, but the 3-door is the heart of the lineup – now with upgrades that strike a better balance between daily comfort and trail-ready toughness.
Subtle Exterior Changes, Familiar Muscle
At first glance, it’s unmistakably Thar. But look closer and you’ll see:
- A redesigned grille, inspired by the 5-door
- Updated LED headlamps and a chunkier front bumper
- C-shaped LED tail-lamps, a revised rear bumper and new alloy wheels
- Only a hard-top, no soft-top or convertible versions
The design changes add a modern twist without diluting the SUV’s character.
Tech-First Cabin
Inside, the changes are more dramatic. The cabin draws heavily from the Thar Roxx, bringing in a noticeable jump in tech and overall layout.
- A pair of 10.25-inch screens take center stage – one serves as the touchscreen infotainment hub, while the other functions as the digital driver’s display.
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Automatic climate control
- Push-button start and keyless entry
- Power window controls moved to the door panel for better ergonomics
- Likely to include cruise control, ventilated front seats, auto-dimming IRVM, 360-degree camera and wireless charger
On the safety front, expect side curtain airbags to join the existing dual airbags, and possibly improved structural integrity.
Same Engines, Still Tough
Nothing changes mechanically – and that’s a good thing. The facelifted Thar sticks with its proven engines:
- The rear-wheel-drive variant will continue to use the 1.5-litre diesel engine, delivering roughly 118 PS and 300 Nm of torque.
- 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering around 152 PS, with 300 Nm of torque in the manual and a slightly higher 320 Nm in the automatic version.
- The 4WD variant is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine, delivering around 132 PS and 300 Nm of torque.
Both engines come with 6-speed manual or automatic and off-road hardware like low-range 4×4 transfer case, electronic brake locking differential and same old clearance figures (226 mm ground clearance, 41.2° approach, 26.2° break-over, 36° departure angle).
Sales Momentum and Pricing
Thar continues to be a strong performer in the SUV space. Mahindra recorded strong momentum in June 2025, with 9,542 Thars sold, reflecting a 77% increase compared to the same month last year. 3-door version accounted for 46,244 units in FY2025 – that’s a clear indication of its popularity.
With all the tech upgrades, pricing is expected to start near ₹12 lakh (ex-showroom), slightly up from the current range of ₹11.50–17.62 lakh. It’ll compete with Force Gurkha and Maruti Jimny but with more features and a better cabin, it’s ready to take the top spot.
