From July 25, 2025, Maruti Suzuki has rolled out a major safety upgrade for its Fronx compact SUV – 6 airbags are now standard across the entire range. And the prices have only gone up by 0.5%.
More Safety for Everyone
Earlier, 6 airbags were available only on higher trims and dual front airbags on base variants. Now front, side and curtain airbags are standard across all variants – so everyone gets more safety, regardless of budget.
This is part of Maruti’s plan to equip all its models with 6 airbags by end of 2025. It also beats the government’s deadline of making 6 airbags mandatory for all new passenger vehicles from October 2025.
Other Maruti models like Baleno, Ertiga and XL6 were also updated in July with the same safety feature.
Powertrains Remain the Same
Mechanically, Fronx remains unchanged. You can choose from:
- A 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine
- A 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol engine
Both engines are available with multiple gearbox options: manual, AMT or 6-speed torque converter automatic, depending on the variant. While the powertrains are familiar, the added safety makes the overall package more attractive.
Export Star with Global Reach
Fronx has been a star since its April 2023 launch. It recently became India’s fastest SUV to reach 1 lakh units in exports in just 25 months. Built at Maruti’s Gujarat plant, Fronx is now exported to over 80 countries and going strong.
How Safe Is It?
No Global NCAP or Bharat NCAP rating for India-spec Fronx yet. But the Japan-spec Fronx with 6 airbags and ADAS was crash-tested in May 2025 and got a 4-star rating from Japan NCAP. So there’s a good base for safety.

Yes, but just a bit. By 0.5% across all variants.
Why now?
