Just when I thought we’d seen it all in the 400cc space, the Triumph Thruxton 400 shows up in leaked images, and wow, it’s something else. With its launch set for August 6, this cafe racer feels like a proper throwback in all the right ways.
Retro Done Right
One look and I was hooked. That rounded fairing, the low clip-ons, bar-end mirrors, the sculpted tank, everything about it screams old-school charm with new-school precision. It looks like Triumph has pulled design cues straight from the larger Thruxton 1200 and shrunk them down into a sleek, nimble form.
What stood out most for me was the removable rear cowl that transforms it into a single-seater. It’s subtle, but it gives the bike a purpose-built look that riders like me always appreciate. Add in the LED lighting and semi-digital instrument cluster, and you get a perfect blend of classic and modern.
Familiar Engine, Sharper Feel
Powering the Triumph Thruxton 400 is the same 398cc engine used in the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X. We’re talking around 39.5 bhp and 37.5 Nm, delivered through a 6-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch. But don’t expect it to feel exactly the same, Triumph is likely tweaking the final drive to suit this bike’s sportier nature.
Launching Soon, and Priced to Tempt
India will most likely get local tire options to keep the price competitive, but the rest of the hardware remains premium, USD forks, monoshock, dual-channel ABS. As for pricing, it’s expected between ₹2.70 lakh and ₹3.00 lakh, placing it as the most affordable true cafe racer on sale in India.
