DS Automobiles has unveiled the new DS 7, a new chapter for the French luxury SUV. Dropping the “Crossback” name, the latest model gets bold design changes, advanced tech and a big emphasis on electric and hybrid powertrains. With the DS 7 breaks cover globally, the SUV now sits on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform, which allows for multiple powertrains including a long-range EV.
Sharper Design Inspired by DS N°8
The new DS 7 takes its styling cues from the upcoming DS N°8 sedan, with a more vertical and aggressive front end. The DS Light Veil signature and DS PIXEL LED VISION 3.0 headlights not only give it a premium look but also extend the beam to 380 metres for better night visibility. Slim taillights, a sculpted bumper and flowing SUV lines complete the modernised look.
Cabin Blends Craftsmanship and Technology
Inside, DS has upped the luxury with Nappa leather, Alcantara and French craftsmanship including the B.R.M R180 rotating timepiece and “Clous de Paris” patterned switchgear. The dashboard is the same as the DS N°8, with a large central screen and a fully digital instrument cluster. This combines style with tech for a premium driving experience.
Electrification is Key
Moving to the STLA Medium platform means electrification is no longer optional – it’s at the heart of the DS 7. The flagship all-electric version will have a 700 km range on a single charge, making it one of the longest-range EV SUVs in its class. Plug-in hybrid options will also be available, building on the brand’s E-Tense range with more power and efficiency.
Launch and Positioning
While DS hasn’t confirmed launch dates, the new DS 7 is clearly targeting the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60. With its unique design, plush interiors and forward-thinking electrification strategy it could be a real showstopper in the premium SUV market.
