BYD has launched the BYD Atto 1 EV at the 2025 GIIAS in Indonesia with a price tag of $12,000 (approx. IDR 195 million). This compact electric car is a rebranded version of the BYD Seagull from China and is targeted at budget conscious buyers entering the EV space.
Two Variants with Strong Value
Buyers will have a choice between two Atto 1 EV variants:
- Dynamic (Standard Range): Comes fitted with a 30.08 kWh BYD Blade battery, delivering a claimed range of up to 300 km under the NEDC test cycle.
- Premium (Long Range): Gets a larger 38.88 kWh BYD Blade battery, capable of delivering a range of up to 380 km (NEDC) on a single charge.
Both models have a front mounted electric motor, 75 hp and 135 Nm, 0-50 km/h in 4.9 seconds, top speed 130 km/h
Feature Packed Cabin at Entry Price
Built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0, the Atto 1 has:
- The cabin features a 10.1-inch swivel infotainment screen that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- 7 inch digital driver display
- The Premium model adds features like wireless phone charging, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, and hands-free entry.
It has all the tech you see in more expensive EVs at this price.
Safety and Charging
Safety:
- 4 airbags in Dynamic, 6 in Premium
- ABS, EBD, BYD’s Blade Battery which passed rigorous safety tests including nail penetration
Charging:
- Dynamic variant 30 kW DC fast charging
- Premium 40 kW
- Both can charge from 30% to 80% in 30 minutes
Will It Come to India?
No official word on BYD Atto 1 EV launch in India but considering BYD’s existing models like Atto 3 and Dolphin, this budget friendly EV can make its way to India. Its aggressive price and capable spec sheet could put it right in the mix with EVs under ₹15 lakh.
