Mahindra’s popular Thar 3-door facelift is set to launch in India soon, with a launch window narrowing down to either September or Diwali 2025. The update is crucial to keep the lifestyle SUV fresh, bringing a tech-laden cabin, design inspired by the new Thar Roxx, and the same reliable powertrains enthusiasts trust both on and off the road.

What’s new outside

Spy shots show Roxx-inspired face with bolder grille, reworked bumpers and revised LED signatures, new alloy wheel designs to sharpen road presence. The overall silhouette remains same as 3-door, subtle rear updates – tail-lamp signatures and bumper tweaks – complete the facelift.

Interior and tech updates

Inside, the big news is a larger 10.25-inch free-standing infotainment system expected to run Mahindra’s AdrenoX with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a fully digital instrument cluster for a more modern cockpit feel. Higher trims to get features like wireless charger, auto climate control and possibly 360-degree camera to bring Thar closer to Thar Roxx.

Engine and performance specs

Powertrains to carry over: 1.5L diesel (RWD), 2.2L mHawk diesel (4WD) and 2.0L mStallion turbo-petrol with 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT. While specific performance figures for the facelift are yet to be confirmed, the current petrol automatic variant achieves a 0-100 km/h time of 10.17 seconds, providing a benchmark for what to expect.

Launch date and price

Early reports suggested September 2025 launch, but newer reports indicate a delay with new timeline around Diwali, bookings to open soon after and deliveries to follow festive season. Prices to go up over current range due to added tech and features, expected to start from ₹12 lakh ex-showroom for base variants.

Expected safety features and ratings

Current-gen Thar has a 4-star Global NCAP rating and the facelift could add more safety features with six airbags on higher trims and possibly rear disc brakes on some variants, similar to updates in Mahindra’s other SUVs. While some reports suggest the possibility of Level 2 ADAS features being carried over from the Thar Roxx, these features remain unconfirmed until an official spec sheet is released by Mahindra.

Rivals and position

The refreshed 3-door Thar will compete with Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny and also overlap with its own 5-door sibling Thar Roxx for buyers who want practicality over pure off-road charm. With updated tech and same powertrains, the facelift looks to defend Mahindra’s turf in the lifestyle SUV space as year-end launches pile up.

Closing note: Expect the Mahindra Thar 3-door Facelift to lean on proven hardware and meaningful cabin upgrades – an approach that should resonate with enthusiasts and first-time buyers alike once launch and pricing are officially locked in around the festive season window.
