Mahindra has unveiled the Vision T concept, a modern take on the electric 5-door Thar built on the company’s advanced NU_IQ platform. Unveiled during the “Freedom NU” event in Mumbai on India’s 79th Independence Day, the SUV concept gives us a clear look at Mahindra’s next-generation lifestyle off-roader.
Thar DNA, Modern Twist
Evolved from the Thar.e concept of 2023, the Mahindra Vision T retains the boxy shape, muscular stance and off-road proportions of the Thar. Updates include a two-part grille, squared LED headlamps and a flat bonnet with chunky latches. Wide wheel arches, all-terrain tyres and a tailgate mounted spare wheel complete its adventure-ready look.
NU_IQ Platform
The NU_IQ platform underpins the Vision T and will serve as the backbone for Mahindra’s upcoming SUV lineup. Built for versatility, it can house petrol, diesel, hybrid, or fully electric systems, with options for both front- and all-wheel-drive setups. Its adaptable design also makes it suitable for left- or right-hand drive, catering to buyers in India and international markets alike.
While Mahindra hasn’t revealed the numbers, the Vision T’s electric setup could have a dual-motor AWD system for strong off-road capability and instant torque.
Interior and Features
The production version is expected to have a spacious cabin with premium materials, large infotainment screen, digital driver display and ADAS safety tech. The mix of comfort and tech will appeal to both city buyers and hardcore off-road enthusiasts.
Launch Timeline and Strategy
The Vision T is part of Mahindra’s “Vision 2027” strategy to redefine the premium SUV space. Production versions on the NU_IQ platform will start rolling out from 2027 and will be manufactured at the Chakan plant near Pune for both Indian and export markets.
