Tesla Has Been Working on the EV Everyone’s Been Waiting For

Tesla has something new in the works in China, and it’s not just another facelift or software update. The Tesla Model 3 Plus has appeared in Chinese regulatory filings and could be the longest-range Tesla ever.

Reports suggest a launch as early as September 2025 and while it looks like a regular Model 3 from the outside, the upgrades underneath are anything but.

A Familiar Body with Some Big Upgrades

From the outside, the Model 3 Plus sticks to familiar proportions – it’s 4720 mm in length, 1848 mm wide, and stands at 1442 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2875 mm. Nothing visually radical, but the real changes are beneath the surface. Visually, nothing screams “all new” but that’s the point.

Here’s where it gets interesting:

  • Battery: It uses a more advanced Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery from LG Energy Solution. This battery is more energy dense than the cheaper LFP packs in other versions. Tesla hasn’t revealed the exact capacity yet but it’s expected to be a big range boost.
  • Range: Based on the regulatory info, the Model 3 Plus could exceed the 753 km (CLTC) of the current Long Range AWD. Some estimates even suggest it could hit 800 km which would be the highest range of any Model 3 to date.
  • Power: It’s a single motor rear-wheel-drive setup with a peak output of 225 kW. That’s up from the 194 kW of the base Model 3 RWD.
  • Curb Weight: It weighs 1,760 kg which is the same as the Long Range.
  • Price: It’s reportedly starting at RMB 270,000 or around $37,600 which puts it between the base RWD (RMB 235,500) and the Long Range AWD (RMB 285,500).

So, Why Should You Care?

Because it’s hard to find an EV that balances range, power and price without leaning too far in one direction. It looks like the Model 3 Plus checks all the right boxes without overcomplicating things. No dual motor, no crazy top speed. Just a long range, rear drive EV with a refined battery and realistic pricing.

If Tesla delivers on the range claims, this might be the most efficient and sensible Model 3 yet. Whether it stays a China only release or goes global is still unknown.

FAQs

Will the Tesla Model 3 Plus be available outside China?
Not yet. Tesla hasn’t confirmed a global rollout. This is a China only version.

How does the Model 3 Plus differ from the Long Range AWD version?
No. While it looks similar, the Model 3 Plus is a single motor and could have more range and better efficiency than the Long Range.

If Tesla really does launch a Model 3 that can stretch toward 800 km on a charge without blowing past 40 grand, this could be the EV that resets expectations. No flash, no drama, just quietly impressive numbers. Let’s see if the rest of the world gets lucky.
