The wait is almost over for those looking for a mid-size adventure bike. The BMW F 450 GS, also known as the Baby GS, is all set to enter the Indian market and from what I have seen so far, it’s going to be awesome.

This isn’t BMW’s first rodeo in the adventure space but the F 450 GS brings a new level of refinement and purpose to the entry ADV category. I first saw the concept at EICMA 2024 and even then the design screamed proper GS DNA. The pointed beak, muscular tank and confident stance gave it real adventure vibes. The production version carries all that forward with LED lights, TFT screen and multiple rider aids like traction control and switchable ABS.

Tucked inside the frame is a fresh 450cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder engine making 48 bhp and 45 Nm of torque. It’s mated to a 6-speed gearbox promising a balance of touring comfort and trail worthy grunt. Suspension is handled by USD forks at the front and monoshock at the rear while 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloys wrapped in tubeless rubber suggest a bias towards versatility.

Its rider triangle is designed to stay comfortable on long-distance rides. High handlebars, mid-mounted pegs and a comfortable seat setup makes it clear this bike is made to roam. BMW is building it in collaboration with TVS which should help price it smartly in the ₹4 to ₹5 lakh range.

Launch expected by October-November 2025, the BMW F 450 GS will rival the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and Honda NX500. But if it rides as good as it looks, the Baby GS might just become the new benchmark in its class.
