There’s something about café racers that grabs your attention even before the engine turns over. Today, Triumph took that feeling and gave it new life with the Thruxton 400, now officially launched in India at ₹2.74 lakh ex-showroom. And from the moment I saw it, I knew this one was going to be special.
The Triumph Thruxton 400 may share its base with the Speed 400, but visually and ergonomically, it’s a completely different machine. Clip-on handlebars, bar-end mirrors, a sharp half fairing, and a single-seat layout with a removable rear cowl — every part of this bike leans hard into that café racer spirit. There’s also a new sculpted tank with the inset Triumph logo, a rectangular tail-light, and brushed aluminium side panels that pull the retro-modern look together.
Under the tank, you’ll find the familiar 398cc TR-Series engine, but here it’s tuned to 42 bhp at 9,000 rpm, a slight bump over the Speed 400, while torque stays at 37.5 Nm. The six-speed gearbox and slipper clutch remain, but the chassis has been reworked slightly. Shorter wheelbase, increased suspension travel, and a seat height of 795 mm give it a sportier, more committed ride. It does weigh in at 183 kg now, but it still feels agile where it counts.
You get dual-channel ABS, traction control, and a digi-analogue display with a gear position indicator. And those color options — red, yellow, or black and white — each with racing stripes, look fantastic in person.
